RSS/99 v1.43 — TI-99/4A RSS News Reader for RXB

I’m happy to release RSS/99, an RSS news reader for the TI-99/4A written in RXB 2026.

RSS/99 lets you choose from a set of news, weather, technology, retro-computing, stock, and other RSS feeds, then displays them on the TI with a colorful scrolling interface. Feed data is collected by my server and refreshed every hour, so the TI only needs to retrieve the prepared feed files.

Features

  • Select the feeds you want from the setup screen; your choices are saved and loaded next time.

  • Date and time come from your local TIPI.

  • Smooth horizontal stock ticker.

  • Optional background music, with four rotating tunes.

  • Music can change with each feed or every 10 minutes, and can be set to loop or remain off.

  • Press S at the title screen to configure feeds and options, or SPACE to start.

  • Hold Q to quit between articles.

Requirements

  • TI-99/4A with 32K

  • TIPI with Internet access

  • RXB 2026

  • F18A or Pico9918 video hardware

  • Best run from DSK1

RSS/99 can run in Classic99, but the colors will not display correctly. For the intended visual experience, use js99er or real hardware with an F18A or Pico9918.

The attached disk image is v1.43, which includes the HTTPS fix, improved error handling, screen-blanking prevention, and an RXB 2026 check.

Many thanks to Zachary Fruhling, whose RSS news program inspired this project and who gave permission for me to release my own version. The original concept was also suggested by Gary from OPA.

Please give it a try, and let me know how it works with your hardware configuration—or if there are RSS feeds you would like added.

Check the DOWNLOADS section on this web site to download the program.
